dok.incubator 2023

The international workshop dok.incubator is intended for documentary filmmakers whose films are in the rough cut stage. Consultations with experienced mentors – established directors, producers, and others – help authors complete their films within six months and prepare them for distribution or screening at film festivals.

The visual style of the 12th edition communicates with the audience through exaggeration and humor. The film editing process – the core focus of the workshops, where rough cuts of individual documentaries are developed into final films – is metaphorically reflected in the process of cutting and styling hair. Just like in filmmaking, the path goes from tools and initial adjustments to a final hairstyle – beautiful and ready to walk the red carpet at film festivals. The visual concept is approached in a surreal way: scissors cut by themselves, a hairdryer blows on its own, and objects are stylized in a unified yet bizarre color palette. Altogether, it creates a coherent visual series somewhere between photography and painting.
